IDF is a side project of IngerAlb, former bassist of the Romanian band Magica; it may be considered an electro industrial band: a mixture of crunchy guitars, electronic sequencers, and techno rhythms. The 1st line up consisted of: IngerAlb - bass guitar & samples and Bat - guitar. This "conjuring of forces" led to a style reminding of KFMDM, Ministry, or White Zombie, although IngerAlb considers Hardwire to be the most alike sounding act in the scene.
The 1st release, "A Taste of the Things to Come" (EP), was recorded in summer 2002 and consisted of 4 instrumental tracks, each preceeded by a small intro. The songs tried to describe through music the technological process of turning a human being into a perfect machine: the cyborg. In order to complete this transformation, the human subject must endure a number of processes, divided in 4 levels. The cd was released in december 2002 and was promoted by Axa Valaha Management (Romania). "A Taste of the Things to Come" was reviewed by the following magazines & Ezines: Kogaionon, Hmm.ro, Atmospheric Zine, Dark Romania, Shapeless Webzine, Tempest, Flowing Mist, Maximum Rock; some of the songs were aired by Romanian radio stations: Radio 3 Romania Tineret, Radio Orion, Radio Dada, Radio Terra Sat, Activ Fm, Radio Minisat Targoviste.
The 2nd release, "Deadly Games" (EP), was recorded in spring 2003 and consisted of 4 instrumental songs featuring a more mature sound and going even further into electronic music while remaining faithful to the style built up on IDF's 1st release. The songs may be considered a suitable soundtrack for computer shooting games, such as Quake, or Unreal. In fact, the songs' titles were all names of the various Quake III MODS. Released in July 2004, "Deadly Games" was reviewed by the followig magazines & Ezines: Metalfan, Maximum Rock, Heavy Metal Magazine, Pyro Music, Angor, Domina Futura, Neurozine and Premonition; some of the songs were promoted by Radio Orion and "Face of Freedom" radio show on BFE FM, hosted by Dj Hypnos. At the end of 2004, Bat decided to quit the band due to his hectic working schedule.
In summer 2005 IDF signed a deal with Dead Sexy Records (UK) for the relaunch of "Deadly Games". The entire artwork was redesigned by Costin Chioreanu. Sadly, the UK label failed miserably to fulfill its part of the agreement and after a short period of time the label went dead: no emails, offline website, etc. This was the last nail in IDF's coffin. IngerAlb tried to put things in motion again by starting an IDF remix album project, that was supposed to involve several independent remixers; however, bad luck & fatality struck again: Discordless (Romanian industrial band) was the only one to deliver what was promised (very interesting remix, btw - tnx guys!). Due to all these major setbacks and because of the constant struggle with total lack of equipment and money, IngerAlb decided to put IDF on hold indefinitely.
IDF may rise up again in the future...time will tell. Meantime keep in mind IngerAlb is still interested in finding talented individuals that would agree to remix IDF music and also compilators that look for bands to be included on future materials can get in touch.
